Elizabeth (Liz) Anderson, LMHC

Elizabeth Anderson (she/her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who empowers clients to feel like an equal teammate in the therapeutic process. Through transparency, she builds the trust necessary to allow her clients to identify their core beliefs and explore and confront any problematic thoughts and behaviors at the root of their suffering. Elizabeth is passionate about helping individuals identify where they are in life, where they want to be, and how to get there. She considers herself a life-long learner and approaches her clients in much the same way she approaches life--with curiosity and warmth. Accurately understanding how the client experiences themselves and the world is vital to her process. She has experience working across the lifespan with health and identity issues, including race/ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, culture, and career and vocational exploration. Elizabeth is fascinated by each stage in life, and is particularly drawn to working with individuals and their families, working through palliative and end-of-life care. Elizabeth draws on Interpersonal Process, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Existential, Multicultural and Feminist therapy techniques to tailor a treatment plan unique to the individual client needs.

Elizabeth has a Master of Arts and a Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. Elizabeth acquired her Masters of Science in Early Childhood Special Education and served as a Head Pre-Kindergarten teacher.

Her experience as an educator inspired her to move towards the field of mental health where she could more holistically support children and families. Elizabeth also has extensive experience working with college students as a counselor and student support specialist with CUNY. In this role, she is able to combine her passions for higher education and mental health working to holistically support students to transition into college, utilize resources, explore majors and careers, in support of self-actualization and interdependence. Since then, Liz has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings, utilizing a collaborative and systemic approach, serving as a liaison between parents, caregivers, educators and care providers.
