Cynthia Solis, LMHC

Cynthia Solis (she/her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has years of working in private practice and uses an eclectic approach of Psychodynamic, Dialectical Behavioral therapy, and Trauma-informed therapy to treat depression, anxiety, cognitive and behavioral challenges for teens and adults. Cynthia encourages individuals to engage in an exploratory process that involves identifying and challenging thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are getting in the way of their life goals. Cynthia believes a strong sense of self-awareness, and uncovering emotions that often are layered, can bring empowerment, growth, and healing. Being a first generation high school, college, and graduate student in her family, Cynthia overcame economic, familial, and academic challenges through resilience and resourcefulness. Cynthia is a bi-cultural Latinx therapist and first-generation college student who has grown up in New York City. Cynthia has personal experience with feeling overwhelmed  with seeking her own mental health treatment, and incorporates her experience in providing a safe & welcoming environment for new clients. Using the support of her own therapy, Cynthia learned to thrive in school and gained the skills needed to heal and transform her experiences that shaped her career.

Cynthia graduated from SUNY Purchase with a Sociology degree. During her time in college, she was the head peer mentor and peer advisor for the Educational Opportunity Program, and continued her work with students at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club as a College Success Coordinator. There, Cynthia taught executive functioning skills to middle, high school and college students who lacked the support they needed.

Cynthia helped these students with attendance, time management, and how to utilize the skills of resourcefulness to become successful and independent young adults. Cynthia then moved on to study at CUNY Hunter College where she earned her Masters in Mental Health Counseling. Cynthia invites clients to engage in ongoing self-evaluation tools in addition to coping mechanisms to bring inner peace and fulfillment. Working with Cynthia, clients will build a strong sense of self-awareness, identify ineffective behaviors, and uncover layered emotions that can bring empowerment, growth, and healing.
